In digital services, we developed the current core information systems of the blood supply chain and the donor mobile application, further improving digital services for donors. As part of the Digi 2030 project, we started digital service renewal projects: transferring the information systems of the blood supply chain to a cloud platform and renewing digital infrastructure services.

Communication and marketing focused on recruiting new donors through media, social media, partners, and event collaborations. Communication themes included patient stories, corporate responsibility, the blood donation bus, the donor mobile application, and preparedness communication. By the end of the year, over 400 companies had adopted the Blood Donation During Work Hours certificate.

In Finland, there are already over 5,800 Donor Groups. A record number, nearly a quarter (43,883) of all blood donation visits, were recorded for members of Donor Groups.

Our website had a total of 875,000 visitors. We renewed the quick test for donation suitability. The suitability test was started over 280,000 times.

In readiness planning and preparedness, we continued close cooperation with authorities and our partners. We participated in the Finnish Red Cross’s readiness exercise, the digital exercise, and the major maritime accident exercise organized in Åland with various authorities. We practiced the operation of the entire blood supply chain during a wide communication outage and also organized smaller function-specific exercises.

We were actively involved in regional preparedness activities and various seminars, training, and cooperation events with authorities and security actors. We also continued close cooperation with the national and regional readiness organizations of the Red Cross. Our technical experts are on standby 24/7 in case of disturbances in the property or equipment.

Our focus in quality management was on developing the electronic quality system and its efficient utilization. We also updated our risk management and our instruction system. All our quality management processes are now electronic, as material receipt inspections and supplier evaluations were also transferred to the validated electronic quality management system. There were more external inspections directed at the Blood Service than in previous years, totaling 16 (2023: 14, 2022: 9).
