Staff

In 2023, the Blood Service had an average of 529 employees, whose contributions total the equivalent of 442 full-time employees (FTEs). Employee numbers rose slightly as a result of the new blood donation activities, the blood donation bus and the plasmapheresis operations due to start in 2024. The mean age of our employees was 43 years. Of our personnel, 88 % were female and 12 % male.

The health of our employees continued to be good and showed an improvement on 2022. Sickness leave was 3.5% of theoretical working hours. There were 25 occupational accidents, and most of them (17) took place during the journey between home and work.

A staff survey showed that the work community’s energy remained excellent overall. In 2023, we focused on managing and strengthening resources among the entire staff. Where necessary, teams received targeted workplace coaching to support their development.

Employee well-being and work ability are also promoted through major exercise incentives, including employer-provided bikes, which are already used by one in five employees eligible for the benefit. The Blood Service also makes an incentive payment to those who cycle or walk to work. In 2023 a total of 187 employees received this payment.

We have a proven record of looking after our young summer employees: our ranking among big companies was third in the Responsible Summer Job campaign. For the campaign, more than 13,000 summer employees from 136 organisations assessed how responsible their summer employers were based on criteria such as good applicant experience, job meaningfulness and the training provided.
